I Started reading this book and I couldn't put it down until I finished, it was great! I loved it, from beginning to end full of mystery and surprises! I cant wait to read more of Karen Vaughan's books...
Karen has brought to life once more Laura and Jerry. I have read all but one of Karens book and I really feel this one and last are so good. She brings her characters alive so I feel I know them. Also I sure would like to meet them. When I find an author that can make me feel I am there with the lead characters, I feel the author has done her job. I hopoe Karen will keep writing about these characters. She also is a very special person and hope one day to meet her. We play a lot on pogo, I hope people will join me in encouraging her to keep writing.
Fast paced, and a laugh a minute, Karen Vaughn's Laura and Gerry's mystery series continues on without pausing for breath...although she does allow the reader time for a quick bite and a dip in the ocean before a dalliance in the bedroom. But then it's all giggles and mayhem when the clues begin to surface. Quite an enjoyable read.
Laura and Jerry Fitz are in Florida on their honeymoon. Driving down a road, they hit what they think is road-kill. Which is exactly what it is a dead body. When the cops get there, Laura and Jerry are arrested for presumed vehicular homicide. Well, from there, things begin getting very interesting. Told in the first person by Laura (with some chapters written POV other people), the novel is fast-paced, well written, and has a cheeky kind of delightful humor, despite the fact that bodies begin piling up. I read this book in three sittings and enjoyed it thoroughly. I will go back and read the prior Laura and Jerry novels. By the way, you can read this one and enjoy it without having read the earlier ones. A well-deserved five stars for this talented author.

Though her new husband Gerry, has reservations, Laura is on a mission, one that puts them all in danger.

Daytona Dead has it all, crooked cops, NASCAR, and murder. I read this book in less than two days and enjoyed it all the way, the pacing was nice and author Karen Vaughan has readers guessing up until the hilarious and very dramatic ending. If you like a murder mystery with humor and unusual suspects, this is your book!

I'm sure no couple planning a honeymoon plans on ending up in jail on the first night, which is what happens to Laura and Gerry Fitz who have just flown from Canada to Daytona Beach for some sun, fun and loving. No sooner have they picked up their rental car, than they hit the first in a series of obstacles to newlywed bliss - the body of Laura's ex-husband which just happens to be lying in their path. Ouch. Bizarre coincidence? The cops don't think so, which is why Laura and Gerry are unceremoniously hauled off to jail.

Laura and Gerry are released when the time of death of her ex-husband is proven to have been before they hit his body, but the drama doesn't end there. On the contrary, it escalates. Unbeknown to her, Laura is holding a crucial piece of evidence, one that will prove who the real killer is. But even if Laura is oblivious to this fact, the killer isn't and he's out to retrieve the evidence at all costs, even if the cost is Laura and Gerry's lives.

Karen Vaughan spins this entertaining yarn about a honeymoon couple, a psychotic race car driver and crooked cops with wit and humor. The characters are likeable and her attention to the details of police protocol lend plausibility to the plot. There's never a dull moment in Daytona for Laura and Gerry, which is what makes this such a page-turner. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book is a hoot! The moment our Canadian friends arrive for their honeymoon in Daytona, FL all hell breaks loose. Laura and Gerry just happen to run over a dead body when they arrive and that dead body just happens to be Laura's ex. As you can imagine, good cops and bad cops alike have them on their radar, before you can say "I'm going to Disney World". They don't hit that tourist hotspot, btw. What they do is their best to enjoy themselves as honeymoon couples are wont to do. They manage to squeeze in some quality time and even do some touristy things that involve a lot of eating, drinking and NASCAR racing. That all happens in between stumbling upon clues, a break-in at their hotel, trips to the local police station, and a mounting number of missing and dead people. The best thing, for me, is Laura's sarcastic wit and her hubby's devotion to his new wife, despite her proclivity to attract trouble like a Porterhouse steak in a pack of Doberman Pinschers! This isn't the first time she's been up to her "almost-plus-sized" neck in trouble. Daytona Dead is the third in the series, so if you want to find out more about Laura you can read Dead on Arrival and Over Her Dead Body. Kudos to a fun, funny, fast read.
