The Horse Whisperer Nicholas Evans Books
[...]I was drawn to the story because the horse and the family needed healing on many levels. I wanted to know more about how the horse and teenager were rehabilitated. Tom Booker, a.k.a. the Horse Whisperer, was an appealing character because he was a very balanced person. It was his role to be the healer. He had his wounds, but used them intuitively to help others. The author portrayed him as a spiritual sort of guy. Suddenly, we are led to believe that he has an epiphany: He needs Annie! Unfortunately, their mutual desire was portrayed on a superficial level. Tom kept remembering her eyes, her smile, etc. This was teenage crush material; not at all in keeping with his stature or implied integrety. Furthermore, without giving the ending of the book away, Tom's final decision was totally unbelievable to me, considering the fact that he'd earned the teenage girl's trust. Just what she needed, more fodder for Post-Traumatic Stress disorder!

The Horse Whisperer Nicholas Evans Books Reviews
I saw this movie quite some time ago. Recently scrolling thru the kindle books I came across this book. It was so well-written I could not put it down. All of the characters in the book were believable and the relationship between mother and daughter so real. They both fought thru their own demons in their life, with strength and courage and let them go. Tom, the whisperer, with his magical touch not only with pilgrim, but with Annie and Grace.. brought them all back from hell to happy beings. The love that Tom shared with Annie, was so deep that Tom just could not live without her. After reading it, I watched the movie again. This book blew the movie away! In all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves horses and would also enjoy a very rewarding experience in love and life's lessons thru a book that is well worth the time to read.
We talk about humans mentally healing after a catastrophic event, but animals can also have horrifying memories of events. Each can heal separately, but interacting with each other can revive horrible memories.
The Horse Whisperer, was able to enable both human and animal to bond into a new relationship.
Love this book! Much better than the movie! A must read!
The name of this book speaks for itself, for I think there are surely few who have not heard of the movie made from this book THE HORSE WHISPERER. Nicholas Evans encapsulates human personalities, love, and the magnetism of sexual attraction--all with his amazing, constant skill. As in all the books I've read by this fantastic author, there is a strong thread of integrity in his writings, and also a very ongoing theme of human nature. His love of animals and his incredible fathoming of the workings of the minds of various personalities, regardless of age or gender, always make for a "terrific read." LOVE all this author has written, and even if one has viewed the movie, don't eschew reading the book. It's well worth the experience.
OK, so, this is a good story, has a great "overcoming tragedy" to become something greater, however, I feel like the author loses you when you begin to see the overdrawn affair between two of the main characters. There's not need to add in something like an affair in a story such as this, because all it does is pull away from the main point of the story. Not a book for a child to read, gives some very inappropriate references for their eyes to read.
and I listened! I remember reading the "tease" of this book almost 20 years ago in "McCalls women's magazine" or at least I think that was the name of the magazine (something I rarely ever did but I was in a waiting room of a doctor's office and I needed something to occupy my time and the name of the magazine isn't important for this review - I was hooked on this story and even began thinking who would be the lead male actor in the movie. And I got it so right - Robert Redford was the actor I imagined and Hollywood must have read my mind!) Not really a romantic novel fan, I "romantically" fell in love with this story and was hooked from the "tease" in the magazine and eagerly awaited the book coming out. These were the days before my magic . I enjoyed Sparks' beautiful painting of complex relationships - not just between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, lover and lover, but also humans and animals as well! I think I have read it at least three times. Again I am not usually a romance novel fan but this one hooked me from beginning to end. Sculpted with texture weaving the story that kept me reading page after page long into the night. I recommend it.
I loved the movie where Tom Booker played a character who represented both wisdom and integrity. Nothing in this book, unlike the movie, indicates why he would become so entranced with Annie, his opposite. In the movie, she initially reminded him of his first wife. I enjoyed the parts of the book that matched the plot of the movie. Not to give away the ending I’ll only say thay my mouth was hanging open by it. So out of character as to be unbelievable. I’m going to watch the movie again to erase that part of the book from my mind.
